Alright, Queen... if you're considering solo travel, let's make it happen! It may seem intimidating, but with the right guidance and insights I've gained through experience, it's totally manageable. If you have a list of destinations you've been dreaming of visiting, you might be waiting for the perfect companion to join you. However, if your friends are occupied, you lack a travel partner, or you're not in the mood for a family trip, don't hesitate to set off on a solo adventure.
Traveling alone, even as a woman, is not as challenging or intimidating as you might think. There are numerous benefits: You are not restricted by anyone else's schedule, budget, or food preferences, allowing you to concentrate solely on yourself. Solo travel gives you the freedom to do whatever you want whenever you want, all while exploring the places that are most important to you. Venturing on solo trips as a woman empowers you to see the world on your own terms. If safety is a concern or if you're looking for companionship, there are countless destinations worldwide that you can consider for your next solo adventure. Below are some recommendations and tactics to keep in mind when it comes to arranging, traveling, and preserving a feeling of peace.
Research
Locations
Focus on a location that you desire. This will help with tracking prices! Here are some of my top recommended solo travel trips.
Hostels
Hostels are more enjoyable than they might seem! I have a fondness for hostels, especially those with a dedicated all-female dorm section consisting of 4-12 beds. It feels like a fun sleepover! Additionally, having female-only bathrooms and showers made me feel more at ease. In hostels, you'll find that people are extremely friendly and often in similar circumstances as you. Take the opportunity to make new friends and enjoy yourself!
Transportation
When it comes to traveling, the most common way varies depending on the location. While some cities consider buses or trains as the safest and most efficient mode of transportation, others suggest using Uber or hiring a private driver. It is recommended to seek advice. with hotels or hostels for their recommendations, as they often have their own drivers or can suggest reliable taxi companies.
Travel Advisories
Prior to traveling, I ALWAYS check the US travel of state advisory page . This website provides extensive information on safety tips, emergencies, pre-travel advice, and more. It can alert you to events occurring in countries that you may not be familiar with, enhancing your awareness of your surroundings.
Flights
Ensure to conduct thorough research on your flights, just like you would for your destinations. Consider not only the prices but also the airports themselves. You may find certain airport locations unenjoyable due to their connection with the surrounding cities. Feeling safe is crucial while traveling. This also applies to layovers. If you have a lengthy layover in specific cities, you might want to take the opportunity to explore or simply have a good meal and rest. Some airports offer accommodations like hotels or sleeping pods.
Safety Tips
Be aware
Don't travel alone at night
Avoid appearing alone, as this could attract extra attention if you seem unsure or insecure.
Make sure to always share your location with a trusted person
Previously talked about check-in times.
Establish a daily schedule so that others are aware of your whereabouts.
Interact with locals or other backpackers to expand your social circle, while remaining cautious.
Make sure you always carry a charger with you
Consider joining tours, especially if you are unfamiliar with the city and unsure of what activities to pursue.
Ensure that you purchase SIM cards to have constant access to GPS and communication.
Remember to always think about the source: Instead of blindly trusting others, rely on your intuition and conduct your own investigations
Travel groups
Whether you're interested in joining a solo female travel group, a group for individuals aged 30 and over, a gap year group, or any other type of group, these options can provide a convenient opportunity to explore solo travel. Typically, these groups follow predetermined itineraries, reducing the need for extensive planning on your end and offering a greater sense of security.
"My (blank) doesn't want me to travel"
Weather that be your parents, boyfriend, girlfriend, boss... whomever... It is essential to maintain a balance between nurturing relationships and pursuing personal dreams. While the support of loved ones can be a source of strength and encouragement, it is equally important to ensure that their expectations do not overshadow your own goals and ambitions. Communication plays a key role in this dynamic, as expressing your desires and aspirations to those close to you can help them understand the importance of your dreams. By promoting transparent and sincere conversations, you can create a supportive environment where your loved ones not only respect your goals but also actively cheer you on in your pursuit of them.
Give top priority to conducting thorough research first. This will demonstrate your commitment and passion. If they are genuinely behind you, they will value the work you put in.
